Why Thanksgiving Shouldn’t Be Overlooked

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope that you will all enjoy today very much. It is the day of the bird, the stuffing, and all of the other fixings. Unfortunately, in recent years, people have often looked ahead to Christmas and Thanksgiving has become something of an afterthought. However, there is a certain aura about the holiday that shouldn’t be ignored. I’ll try my best to explain that, as well as what this special day means to me.

To me, Thanksgiving represents the time when the year is just winding down, and when the temperature has decreased for good after a long period of inconsistency. Therefore, the true end of the year can begin to commence, ultimately climaxing with Christmas and the New Year holidays. I usually wake up to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, then watch both the Lions’ and Cowboys’ games while skipping the primetime game, because the matchup always looks better on paper before the season begins (ah the Giants…). Obviously, I also partake in family dinner and chill with my family.

But what is the key factor in why Thanksgiving is so important, you may ask? Well, it’s in the title. Giving thanks is the most important aspect of today. In an era of technology overtaking social interaction, Thanksgiving can serve as a friendly reminder to not take your family and friends for granted. If you really understand the point of the holiday, then that should mean that you won’t go Christmas shopping tonight. Enjoy your comrades tonight. Eat some turkey, chat it up, and most of all, give thanks and be charitable.

Now, to close this article, I’d like to give thanks. I give thanks to my two brothers, my parents, grandparents, all of my other relatives, and my friends. I am extremely grateful to have lived the life that I have lived. I am humbled to have had the opportunity to write every Thursday here on Mid-American Culture. It’s been a fun ride writing about topics that intrigue me and picking songs for the playlists, and I hope that it doesn’t end anytime soon. I’m also thankful that you take the time to read all of the articles here.

I hope that I have inspired you to take a look back and realize how great Thanksgiving is. And hey, since it’s a special day, I’ll have a special bonus article up later tonight, so keep an eye out for it. Thanks for reading!
