Hello everybody and welcome back to the Mid-American page. As many of you are aware, the NFL draft was last night. I saw a lot of teams make some strong decisions and some…. well they did not. So lets dive into it.
#1: Baker Mayfield, QB, Oklahoma
Personally, I loved this pick and the player. As an Ohio State fan, apart of me wants to hate Baker, but you just can’t. Baker plays football with a ton of fire and passion. He extends plays, has a pretty good arm, and just seems to make shit happen. He draws a lot of comparisons to Brett Farve, he even takes the same pictures as the legend…
The Heisman winner tore up competition in his tenure at Oklahoma and is the first Heisman winning first pick since Jameis Winston in 2013. Baker has struggled with off-field issues and seems to be on the bad end of the news often.
However, if the Browns really wanted him, I would have bet money he would have been there for the fourth pick. I have no clue why you would let a player like Saquon Barkley go, but the dude has the swagger, winning attitude, and skill the Browns are going to need.
#2 Saquon Barkley, HB, Penn State
Speaking about Saquon, he went second last night to the struggling Giants. This is a very wise pick for the Giants, While many may argue they should have drafted the heir in Eli’s reign, I agree with picking Saquon. The football Gods used every tool in the book to make Barkley. He has strength, speed, good hands, elite explosiveness, and has an act for finding the hole. This is also going to keep superstar Odell Beckham Jr. happy. Beckham will now have more wiggle room as now defenses have to watch for the Giants offense on the ground the too instead of just in the air.
#3 Sam Darnold, QB, USC
Have one word for you, BUST. While this kid was a good college QB, I do not see him making the next step. He will start this season and get thrown to the wolves. Playing in the Pac-12 is not truly a challenge defensively. Darnold has an excellent arm but makes very poor decisions. We will see in time but I do not see this pick panning out.
#4 Denzel Ward, CB, THE Ohio State
I love this guy. He gave Ohio State fans alike many memories and will truly be missed. However, I was shocked by this pick. The Browns needed a lock-down corner to keep QBs throughout the league honest. I think this pick will stick due to Ward’s pure skill.
#5 Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State
Bradley Chubb is the most talented defensive player in this draft class. Speed, strength, finesse, the kid has it all. I really wanted him to fall one more pick to my Colts. Chubb is going to terrorize Quarterbacks for years to come and I cannot wait to see what this kid does.
How do you feel about the draft? Let us know down in the comments! The wraps up this weeks article. Thank you for spending apart of your Friday with me. As always stay tuned for fresh daily content from myself and the rest of the Mid-American crew.
